Cool Ford Production Delay????

Greetings-

I am looking for some input..........

I ordered a 2016 F350 DRW 6.7 Diesel in mid-May 2015. I quickly received my VIN, but to this day (July 15, 2015) it has yet to be scheduled for production. When I call the dealer, as well as Ford customer service, I get the same answer: It is in the order process.

Geez....How long does the order process take? I feel like I am in a black hole where nobody can give me an idea when this D@%$ thing will be built. I absolutely must have "A" truck (I hope the one that I want that I ordered) by early September. I would love to buy one off the lot, but we want the lariat ultimate package as well as the 40/20/40 front bench seat (which is very difficult to find).

Should I fight with the dealer to get my $1000 deposit back and get a Ram (they are much easier to find with the split bench seat in front) or will this thing ever get built???????

By the way, I need to take delivery of the truck around the Dallas, TX area.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

From the time of order to the time of production is anywhere from 4 weeks (very earliest) to 8 weeks (if there's a scheduled holiday in there somewhere sometimes even a bit longer). After production, delivery can be anywhere from a week to nearly 4 weeks. Bigger, high volume dealers will almost always get their orders delivered quicker, as transport trucks wait until they have a full load to deliver before leaving the rail yard. Once it's delivered to the dealer, they still must do a mandatory prep and inspection before you can take possession of it.

The dealership has precisely zero control over this and cannot help you rush things along. Complaining to them will not help one bit. The only thing the dealer does have control of is if they screwed up the order, delayed submitting the order, the region has build constraints that the dealer ignored and failed to tell you, or if there's a commodity constraint that they ignored and failed to tell you. When they first submitted your order to Ford, on the following day they would have received their constraint reports and it would have OK'ed your truck for production or flagged it for something.

Or maybe it is scheduled for production and they don't know how to look it up.

Production normally stops in July for the Independence Day holiday. It adds a few weeks to the process.

Same thing happened to me when I ordered my truck at the end of November and production shut down for the Christmas holidays. Ended up being built near the end of January (8 week time frame from order to production), and I took delivery in February.

If you don't already have a scheduled build date, it should be coming very soon at this point. My best guess is you'll probably take delivery sometime in mid August.

Congrats on ordering, AKRV! The typical wait time on an ordered vehicle is around 8 weeks. I know waiting is hard, but I'll be happy to provide you with weekly updates on your truck's progress. Send me a PM with your VIN, and I'll do the rest.

Pocket-

Hmmm, sure is frustrating to not at least have an idea of when it will be built. I have a lot riding on a specific date that I thought as far enough out when I ordered this truck.

Thanks for your input!

I also ordered my Lariat w- 40/20/40 seat in May to get options we wanted, My dealer did advise me of a 13 week lead time when we ordered it. all I got is scheduled build date of Late July which is still within the 13 weeks I agreed to. I just hope it doesn't take another 4-6 weeks to get delivered to dealer which a smaller rural dealer that I guess takes longer. Crystal is great and she will keep you updated.
But yes I agree waiting is hard. I got some camping to do !!!

Hi AKRV,

It looks like you have 6 posts now; you might want to give it another shot. If you're still having difficulty, you can email your VIN to custserv@ford.com. Be sure to put my name in the subject line and post here when you've sent it. I'll go and track down your message.

Thanks for the heads up, AKRV. If you still don't have the ability to PM, feel free to email our generic customer service account I listed above. Just let me know if you end up reaching out so I'll know when to check on your message.

We've had a customer with a similar concern and his order has been "unscheduled clean" for some time. Job one was towards the end of May, and my info from Ford advises me to suggest 10-12 weeks from order to del on the 250-350 trucks, and says there are no production delays. I think sometimes if you order particular build combos it gets pushed back until there is a run of them that they can produce together. I hope Crystal had good news for you, but getting a new Ford truck is always good news, even if it's a little late.

Thanks Frantz. Yes, Crystal got back with me and advised the build may be around the end of July.

I am starting to be a little more at ease.

Also, what is "Job one"? I also saw "Job #1 Build" on my vehicle order confirmation sheet.

Thanks,
Joe

I think it's the 40/20/40 seats that we want are holding us up!!! Bwahahahah, just kidding.

My dealer already has some 16's on the lot so I know there making them
My order went in right after the 15's order deadline stopped.
My wife told me to calm down, its worth the wait to get exactly what we want and I Agree. its just like a kid waiting at Christmas.

sounds like we ordered about the same time so lets see who get theirs first.
