Hey guys, I just bough an 04 f150 fx4 off my step dad. He had the motor swapped last year as a bad mechanic ruined the other one. So he got a "long block" installed which last i checked just means he got a block and heads. This is not a specific motor type. I want to make sure that when I go to get an oil filter in getting one for the 5.4 V8. Am i correct? And does the oil filter on this motor get used on their other V8s? I just want to make sure if it has a different motor for some weird reason the filters don't really change or something. Thanks!
I would stick with the Motorcraft oil filter as it has an anti-drain valve in it to make sure your head have oil at all times. Not all filters have this valve that fit a 5.4l engine.
Is there any engine that could have gone in to replace the 5.4? Step dad swears they put a larger motor in it than the 5.4 triton. So if there is anything bigger they could have put in what would my options be? Is there somewhere I can look to get an engine num?
Anything other than a direct replacement would have been very expensive because of the computers, electronics, etc. that would all have to be changed, among many other concerns. Highly doubtful the engine type was changed.
