Running Rough

I have recently acquired a 1974 F100 Custom with a 240 six and a manual transmission. It has 62,000 miles on it. It ran pretty well until I decided to change the points, plug wires, etc. Now it coughs and sputters when I try to accelerate from a stop. My mechanic friend says he thinks the problem is in the distributor advance (maybe leaking). It has two hoses running to the manifold.

Any Ford truck folks have similar experiences/ideas/solutions? Thanks so much!

It's been my experience that if something I worked on is worse off after I "fixed it" then I did something wrong.
Go back and recheck your work, check the wiring order and it's possible a wire broke when being pulled off of the plug.

GOOD ADVICE

Thanks, Old Metal, for taking time to respond. I wanted to let you know that your advice worked after a fashion. As I said previously, the rough running followed replacement of points, cables, and plugs. While trying to find the solution, we pulled the distributor. It's cast metal hold-down clamp was cracked which must have allowed the distributor to rotate slightly when we changed the points. An adjustment and a new clamp fashioned out of a heavy washer seem to have done the trick.
