Replace PRNDL on 2000 Ex

Broke the string on PRNDL that moves the pointer, after I replaced the gear shift shaft in the steering column. It actually broke a couple of days after the replacement of the gear shift shaft. Can I replace the broken string, or do I need en entire assembly.

2000 EX, 295K miles, 2WD, Limited, V10 Triton.

You have to get the whole PRNDL assembly from the Dealer. You may want to try a wrecking yard and see if you can get one for under 50. IIRC the dealer wants 60 and up.

once i have it, how hard is it to install? I have left the trim pieces off the steering column, in anticipation of getting a replacement.

it isn't that hard. If you are mechanically inclined you can do it.

Hardest part is removing the cluster. 90% of the time the plastic bracket that holds the cable end at the column is the issue.
