Replaced all plugs, wires, cap and rotor. When I bought my '92' F-150 it had a slight miss to it. The tranny (E4OD) was shifting into high gear immediately after it shifted to 2nd and I thought perhaps that was the cause. When changing plugs I found that the plug in #4 cylinder had no gap and that it looked as though someone had stuck it in grease when changing it previously. There was a heavy fuel smell as well as if the injectors were putting too much gas overall. I ran injector cleaner through it but the gas smell is still there. Also, after putting the new plugs in and everything else, the #4 plug is still missing until I get up to 50-60 mph. When I pulled the plug, it was still soaked in gas.
What might I try next......I'm out of idea's...
Need to find out if there is spark to the plug. Then if you know the plug is good, my guess is a failed/leaking injector. It happens.
Worst case scenario, if this injector were to completely fail in open position, then it will fill the cylinder completely up, then up to the top of runner on the lower intake. Could possibly hydro-lock and sorts of disaster set in.
But, I would just check first to see if you have spark at the end of the plug with it grounded. Or whatever method you choose.
Thanx for the input, Timbersteel and Goingboarding. I did change the plug in that one cylinder and it ran well for the first minute before the miss returned. I'll have to wait for the compression test until I can get to a friends shop to check it out......
Here's to hoping the compression is okay......
