The switch is located about half way down the column and you access it by removing some of the dash cover and two nuts. When you remove the nuts from the column the column will drop several inches and you can reach up around the brake area and R&R the switch.

Your best bet is to drop the column, and to remove the switch. Then use a small screwdriver, in place of the metal rod you removed, to work the ignition switch. Test it about a dozen times. If, within 12 times it cranked every time, it is most likely that your actuator (ignition switch actuator) is bad, or your switch was out of adjustment -possible but not likely.
