My 2004 5.4 SCREW 4x4 with 165K will sometimes not downshift from a cruise (foot off accelerator) or a complete stop. The engine will lug and have a very deep rumble with no much acceleration. I can get the tranny to downshift by depressing the throttle hard or by removing foot from throttle and depressing again. If I do just press harder the truck will launch when it finally downshifts.
I am usually pretty light on the throttle, however I have not changed my driving habits.
I don't think this is a COP issue. I have had the stutter and miss feeling with a bad COP. Plugs have 75K on them.
I tow frequently and it seems to not happen as much while towing a 6000 lb boat, of course I am probably into throttle more while towing. I have an EDGE set on 2.
My thoughts are:
Dirty throttle body
Throttle position sensor
