Okay guy so once again I need some help. So I've already replaced all tie rods and new stablizer shock on my front end within last few months. I've recently noticed that on both sides of my truck when I lean inside the tire and wiggle the axle it has play at the wheel side and other side. And I've also noticed that on my passenger side that I'm completely missing a seal on the side where the axle comes out of. So... the question is could someone help me out on what's going on and what am I going to need to fix this issue. I just want to get this truck straightened out.
Also I don't want to change the subject because I need all the help I can get but my truck has a six inch lift on it and if anyone is willing to trade it for a 3 inch or stock suspension let me know.
How many miles are on your truck? How much play is there in the axle shaft? The seal on the outer tube is a dust seal. It doesn't effect the operation of the axle itself. Its only meant to keep debris out of the axle tube. Ford has an updated design. Mine were rolling around on the axle for 50K before I replaced them but that was only due to replacing hubs and ball joints.
Depends on the direction of play. Forward to back can be pitman arm problems.
Up and down or in an out tilt can be ball joint wear. Both tires are doing the same it will be a common attachment point.
My truck has 83k on it. I just went out and checked the play again just to be sure and it's up and down. One side is worse than the other. Is there a way to post video clips on here?
OMG no one has any helpful feedback on this.. I dont know if this is any help but i also noticed that on the one side of the truck after the u-joint where it goes into the hub it looks as if it has a lip on it and it"s actually sittting out of it like a 1/8th of a inch, I looked at the other side and its seated in there flush.....
Also, I'M not really sure if this has any relation to whats going on but twice within the last two weeks while i was driving at a slow rate of speed 10-15mph i noticed a loud
CLUNK!......(Driving straight)... It startled me and i even stopped because i thought i had hit or ran over something............ANY IDEAS?????
Lots of things to check, u-joints, unitized bearings on each front corner, inner dust seals, inner hub o ring, outer gasket, actual automatic hub lubrication and function, and most importantly you dont mention ball joints, top and bottom, how old are yours and you need to check them by lifting both sides on stands and seeing if there is any play working the tire to see if these are loose, any noticeable play is bad. When doing the ball joints all of the above needs to be inspected.
