what to look for when buying a 1986 E150

what to look for when buying a 1986 E150

I have learned allot reading on these forms since I bought my first van that i never thought of before. Now I am stuck with a 95 GMC Vandura conversion van that I wold never have bought knowing what I know now! I will hopefully be selling it soon for less then I paid for it.. It needs rear springs and is sagging. The top is sagging and it needs new a-frame bushings and shocks...

So I bought the 85 e150 and that is the one I want to spend my money on and make my daily driver...

Well I was looking on craigslist and spotted a 86 1/2 ton e150 with a 351 in it. It is the same wheel base as mine. It is $700.00. It is not a high-top and has 2 rows of seats in the back. I have only seen a few pictures of the van and they are not very high quality pics. What I am interested in doing at this point is buying it for parts.... I think most everything will swap out between a 85 and 86 if i am correct.
The add doesnt say much and includes Road Worthy and ready to go.. Bring a battery and drive it home...

What are some of your thoughts and things to look for when you do the initial walk through?

I am interested in transmission, should be a AOD?
The rear axle should be the same as my 85 with a 302?
It does'nt appear to be sagging in the back...
It appears from the pics to have a little rust above the drivers door.. But I am more interested in parts...
If It runs good then I might drive it for now... and dump the GMC while it is still running..

Hard to say........A quick parts search lists the 351 as a 4bl and there's three different versions of the AOD and a C6 Trans for that year. I'd guess it's a C6 with the 351 4bl.........
