Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone here has tried or knows about adding heated mirrors to a dent side ? I am wanting to change to the type 8 mirrors and would like to find a way to make them heated, so I'm wondering if anyone here has tried it, did it work, or knows how I might go about doing it.
Thanks for your help.
I've considered trying this myself. Haven't gotten too serious about it, but I like the idea of retrofitting newer heated mirror components into our style of mirrors.
that would be a good idea i think, to just buy the heater element and components of the newer truck mirrors and then take our mirrors apart, put in the heater element and wire it up. i hope others who have either done this before or also considered it will add any advice and tips about it, as i would like to try and get it done by mid fall or so. at least want it done before winter gets here and it's always better to not wait until the last minute, but that doesn't mean that i wont think about it all summer then wait until the end of fall to actually do it. good luck to you when you try it thatsrealnice .
I did a Google search for "DIY heated mirrors" and got some links to some automotive discussion forum threads, but most were about adapting optional OEM mirror glass to their non-heated mirror equipped cars. However, one person posted a link to a "universal mirror glass defogger heat grid" on eBay. Here's the link: UNIVERSAL MIRROR GLASS DEFOGGER HEAT GRID 5 6 x 3 2 | eBay
The second one down is a 6" X 3.75" size. Scrolling down, it says other sizes are available, but I didn't have time to scroll through more pages. They're only $6 each, but they are shipped from Poland, so there is a $5.80 shipping charge: http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNIVERSAL-MIRROR-CAR-SIDE-GLASS-DEFOGGER-HEAT-GRID-MATS-6-x-3-75-12V-ELEMENT-/121567345014?hash=item1c4dfa7976
thanks, will check into all the info i can read on it this week and weekend and will let you guys know what i find out and how it works out once i pick which route to go. if any others try it also please share your info here as well.
