I bought the posts, hardware and clamps from LMC. They had the best parts diagram. My tray was fairly new, but the PO didn't install any hold down at all.
LMC sells the group 27 top clamp for $20. Summit sells the exact same part for $12.
Todays group 27 batterys have the posts located to close to the edge of the battery case to use the top clamp. Of course I didn't realize this until I had already bought the $20 top clamp from LMC and tried to install it on my battery. There was only about 1/16in clearance between the metal clamp and the battery posts. It was to close for comfort. I could have used a grinder and clearanced the bracket some, but Im going to save the bracket for the next battery.
I went to Bass Pro and bought a group 27 composite battery tray and hold down for $16. I used the composite top clamp on my hold down rods. Fits like a champ, and unless you know what you are looking at, looks oem.
For starters the nearest Napa is 30 min away from me. Its a small store in a town of less than 5000 people. They have never had a single part in stock for my truck.
Summit racing is 40 minutes away.
I haven't seen a group 29 battery anywhere around here.
ND not to argue with you but my 64 F100 came from the factory with a 27 F battery. It was ordered that way. I ordered the clamp a couple of years ago that you gave me the part number for and it was the wrong one. It was the small hold down that you mentioned for the 29 F. I did some more research and found a mount for a 64 tray with a 27 F in Maryland and ordered it and it was the correct one. Here is a picture. The tray and the hold down bolts are the original ones it came with. The hold down bracket is NOS and came in the Ford box but I do not remember the part number
The diagram ND posted shows the terminals toward the firewall. Most installs I have seen have the terminals toward the core support.
What is bracket 10A705? Its in ND's diagram.
Skid, do you have a pic of the oil pressure sender wiring? The PO installed a mechanical gauge and my wiring is gone. I want to get the light working again.
The color of the wire and where it enters the cab would be helpful.
ND, in a small town, parts stores usually only carry parts for current model vehicles, so online ordering is often our only option.
The 27 F battery is a reverse post battery that allows it to be placed the way mine is. Positive post on the right as you are looking at it from the front of the truck. If it is just a 27 series battery you have to put the battery in backwards in order for the cables to reach the posts. Years ago I had a 27 series in it and if you jump started someone you had to be very careful not to ground out to the cab when attaching the cables. As far as the oil psi wire I do not have a picture but the wire is white with a red stripe and it is part of the harness that goes to the distributer as well. There is a 3 pin plug that it plugs into. If you want to keep the mechanical gauge as well you can just pull the hex plug out in the oil port in the block and use that for your gauge, I run both light and gauge.
