I am getting ready to move, will be pulling a trailer with maybe 3-4k pounds of household goods for about 3000 miles. There are no known problems now. Wondering if I should take it in for an inspection or Tranny Flush before my journey? Suggestions?
polar888,
I'm not a big fan of a power flush, but I would change the ATF before heading out on trip like that where you are towing a trailer. You are not going to go that many miles without going up and down a few inclines, and those can be hard on a tranny. I would either passive flush (using the return cooler line) or drain n fill. Personally I prefer Valvoline Max Life ATF, but any reputable ATF that meets specs will work.
I would do a pan drop/filter change using a Mercon V approved fluid. Motorcraft, Super Tech and Castrol are all easy to find in my area and Mercon V certified. I've never been a fan of the one size fits all transmission fluids(Max Life) but some have had no problems out of them.
