thoughts on CL motor?

7.3 turbo Idi motor

I'm probably gonna pick this up. Any chance this is a member of FTE?

No issues with pulling the stock turbo setup on this 93 and putting it on my 88 N/A right? Yes, i will likely change the downpipe and yes, i'll have to change a tad bit as i've got the ZF not the auto.

Thanks in advance.

If you have the zf you won't have any issues with the pipes only the other way around. I got my turbo off a zf and put it on my auto. I had to cut the y and widen it 1" but everything else fit.

That's awesome news. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure I'm buying it. a knock I've been chasing on my current motor is starting to feel like a bad connecting rod. ugh

so basically you'll get a turbo for half price and an engine tossed in for free.
good deal on a used engine for sure but make sure your not swapping an engine just due to a bad injector.......still grab the turbo w/ free engine though.

I've got a dialogue going with the guy already. Sure he could sell it from under me but I'm hoping he's cool about things. I can't get over there to look at it til next week.

still chasing the knock. not sounding too good. i haven't had a chance to start pulling injectors yet but it sounds real ugly from underneath. had to get my car up and running first as that just needed a fuel pump.

any theories to the "runs for 10 mins then shuts off" listed in the ad?

...I wonder if he swapped the wires to the FSS and the cold advance. That would kill the engine dead as soon as the truck warmed up.
Alternately, it could have something IP-wrong, but they don't usually fail this way.
You could have a restricted fuel line, and it's slowly building pressure before it dies, but it would take a lot less time than 10 minutes to die.
I'd swap in a new low-pressure fuel pump(because it's probably old), get a radiator, fuel and batteries hooked up to it on an engine stand. See if you can get it to fail on you once you know you have good power to the FSS.

Bought.

He kept the wiring harness so I have no idea if he just had the FSS wired wrong. It was bare when I got there.

I'll get some pics up later today when I'm done work. No obvious catastrophic failures.

Gonna need to get the turbo rebuilt. Wheel inside is a little dinged up.

New toy

Started taking it apart. Turbo needs some love and I'm probably looking at a full rebuild. A lot of slop in some rockers/pushrods. Haven't gone too deep yet but not getting the warm fuzzies.

Top end differences between an 88 NA and a 93 turbo'd? Can I swipe the good rockers off my 88 motor?
