F250 OEM Trailer Brake Controller

I just bought a OEM Ford Trailer Brake Controller and installed it on my 2015 F250 SD Diesel. It has the trailer tow package on it but it didn't have the in dash controller. I have heard that you need to have the dealer activate it or something. Is this true? Someone else mentioned a different master cyclinder was necessary too. Anyone installed one of these? The truck is brand new.

Yes, you do have to have the dealer activate it. There is a good discussion about that in one of the forums, but I can't recall which one. Haven't done the master and don't know if all new trucks have the same master.

The dealer will have to run the computer on your truck to activate the new controller....don't know how the new trucks come a to if the master cylinder is the same in with/without TBC. When you ordered the controller they should have asked you if you had the correct master cylinder.

I KNOW that in the earlier trucks (like my 2005) there WAS different master cylinders. However, Ford (and all manufacturers) wound up installing the newer type anything in all the vehicles and let the computer sort it out. Check with Ford.

My understanding now is the master cylinder is ok. No switching there.

to verify look at it.

I think the real reason they had to be changed was the sensors on the thing. If there are two then it should be fine.

Pay the fee and have them turn it on.

The TBC is well worth the money.

I have everything all set now. I took it to the dealer to have the computer re flashed, as they say. The master cylinder needs no mods. Now my controller shows up in the display panel on the dash. I can't wait to try it with the trailer. We are off to Canada from Florida next week. Thanks for all the help.
