My OEM camera problems and solution
2011 F150 King Ranch w/ SYNC (with navigation)
My camera started going out. My symptoms occurred off and on and sometimes at once. It was almost as if I had a ground wire that was loose. I eliminated a ground problem because the symptoms kept changing. They were are follows.
- blurry lines like WiFi interference
- black and white image
- reverse image on the camera
My solution was to purchase a replacement camera from camera source. The camera I purchased was this camera. I choose the
emblem since I wasn't sure how it comes off. Mine just popped off and was reusable. I still replaced it with the new one. Most of the wiring for the camera was replaced with the wiring that came with the replacement and was easy to accomplish. About 3 feet of the OEM camera cable was removed. The replacement camera cable plugged into the harness behind the rear bumper and the excess camera wire was zip tied (lots of zip ties were supplied with the replacement camera). The OEM camera housing was large compared to the replacement camera. It took about 15 minutes for the entire project from start to finish. My backup camera is now clearer and works great! I have the same lines that the OEM camera had.
