What is this?

What does this wire do? Its dirty,coroded,1 of the wires is about to fall off.

The way it looks is,1 wire comes off the Neg. post, then it splits into 2. The two go into a plug and 2 wires come out of that plug, the "output" wires are black with a green stripe and the other is black or white,I cant tell.

Its on a '89 4.9L 300.

Thanks.

The extra leads were part of the original negative cable, and go to the computer and other grounds. Do your self a favor and buy a new negative cable and don't screw around with a replacement end like you have. The negative cable is $33.49 at NAPA, and the picture (on the website) shows the additional ground wires built into it.

Could'nt I just run a wire from the battery to them leads? Either way,I would have to cut into the wiring harness because the old connection is absolutely no good. And 30 bux isnt gonna happen soon cuz I just gave up 6o for a tune up,cap,rotor,wires,etc...

Yes you could. Get yourself a package of 12 gauge (yellow sleeve) 1/4 inch ring connectors(crimp connectors) and if there is enough wire left, crimp on the ring connector to the end of the wire from the harness that is now hanging on the battery clamp bolt ( if there isn't enough wire - extend it using some 10\12 GAUGE WIRE and a crimp connector-yellow sleeve for 12 gauge) and screw the ring under one of the bolts that is holding the battery cable to the replacement clamp. That is what I did, I used 6 Volt Battery Cables all around as they are much heaver gauge wire than the 12 volt cables , but they had no extra wire to connect to the harness. I also added pair of extra 12 gauge wires and ring terminals and ran them to a nearby bolt on the radiator support as an extra body ground. I also looked at the cables that Advance Auto Parts sells ( only $12 ) and they have only one extra wire built into the clamp to connect to the harness , NAPA has the harness connector as well as a separate cable to go to body ground as well as the one for the engine ground, that is most likely why their cable is $33.
