When you reads the new stuff has six or more gears you have to ask yourself is it really worth it in the end to get that last .10 of a mile to the gallon. Not slamming owner I just wish they wish they would put more money into durability than into styling. But the customer spends the all mighty dollar on style. Just my opinion.

Manual transmissions were phased out because the demand was not there. Very few people wanted to shift gears.

I would think, with aftermarket tuning on the transmission, the transmission would be plenty capable hard part wise instead of being cut off at the knees with factory "general public" shift strategies. If that makes sense, I know what Im tryin to say.
