I got a call Thursday from a former boss asking if I would come back and work for him. He wanted me for full time but I have a good thing going with my neighbor and his welding business. Anyway I agreed to part-time for him on weekends. This is what I drive and operate on the job. '08 F-650 Cummins/Allison 10k lbs load 20' Jer-Dan steel bed with stinger.
Yea it's really cool to be down in a six foot deep ditch hooking up a car that slid off the road in a downpour. In fact it can be downright freezing in February. And working a crash that involves a family that has been hit by a drunk is also so much fun. Sorry I went off like that. But the job is a really hard one that few people realize can be quite difficult to do. And just wait until you have to go get some A**holes Mercedes.
Riggz maybe Heavy Duty related. This is the Super duty and Heavy duty forum. The 650 I believe qualifies. And Jake I find satisfaction in doing something that is beyond most peoples abilities. That is one reason why I was a combat medic in the early 70's. But the reason why I took on this responsibility at this point of my life is driven by the economy. I can't afford to pass up work. Your post seemed to imply that the job is all fun and games (cool) and not the work that it can be.
Nice F650! And yes, it does quality as a Heavy-Duty Ford
My brother had a '68 F600 with the same style tow bed. He hauled forklifts, and did do auto recovery when he could get the work. I went with him when I was in my teens, during the summer...
I once considered putting a tow body on my highboy and doing 4-wheel recovery, but ... never got there

I just thought he meant it was something he might have wanted to do, not that it is just a game.
Besides you can have fun while you are doing hard work. It is all about what you make of it. Plus you must think it is "cool" in a way or you wouldn't have started this thread Towing was a very enjoyable job for me even when it meant hard work.

I apologize Jake. Yes it can be fun also. I do remember one particular tow for the police. They called for a car to be towed when the driver had been arrested. When I turned the key, to release the steering and transmission, the CD player started up. The "song" that was playing was "**** the Police" by N.W.A. I laughed out loud as I looked at the driver, standing there, in handcuffs, watching his car being confiscated under the drug forfeiture laws.
