I can't be the only one to have this problem. I live in a semi-rural area and mice are a constant problem. I do not have the luxury of a garage so what happens is that mice climb up to my engine compartment, have dinner, and then pee on everything. This ruins paint and chrome and causes a hell of a lot of expense and damage. What do I do?
Yes, I have a cat and she is a good hunter but not good enough.
Yes those rat bast**ds can be a pain, especially the field rats.. Get packs of rat poison and leave it on the intake.. They will go for that first and that's all it takes, good bye Mr mouskatool!
Avoid the poison as your cat will catch the rodent and it will ingest the poison when they chew on mickey. Get a meaner cat or stop chasing off the tomcats. My cats are fixed but they still have boyfriends, as a result I have no mice in my shelters as thats all the tom's get to eat unless they have Sally or Frankie for dessert.
in my area its the cats that are the ones that get up into my engine compartments and **** all over...man that is an awful stench..burning cat **** on an exhaust manifold..
They are very destructive and completely ruined my A/C duct work and nested in my fan motor. The smell was so bad I could not drive with the windows up. I tried dryer sheets but the green Irish Spring shower soap placed under the hood works. I use it when I put the vehicles away for the winter and have not had an issue since.
I use those mice/rat killer snack block (just one bite bar) that kills them, then dries them out. So at least no dead stinky in the truck or behind the dash in the vent tube.
I also use no kill, live catch, spin close style traps in the cab when it is parked. Baited with peanut butter, then 12 gauge to high heaven the trap (with mickey in it) later to feel better about it.
Also a cleaned out tuna can of moth ***** and a few dryer sheets in the eng compartment, and of course another killer snack block.
I had a problem with them whizzing on top of my speaker boxes behind the seat, and eating the batting behind the roof liner.
I hate mice, those little wire chewing/wizzing sonny beaches. lol
Once the smell is there, use none lighter fluid coated charcoal brickets in a small open plastic bowl to soak up the smell.
Why are there so many mice/rodents in your area? There has got to be food sources to allow them to multiply fervently, habitat to hide in, and few predators around to keep them in check.
Not enough predators? Cats, avian raptors, snakes! My pal controls mice in his vineyards with barn owl boxes.. one per acre. After nesting season he cleaned out one box and discovered what he estimated were over 200 mouse skulls... among other things.
Habitat... dense shrubs, tall grass, etc. Clear immediate area around the house with no places to hide btwn the house/garage and the wilder areas of the property. Create no habitats or hiding places like wood piles, junk piles, etc. Mice don't like to cross open areas.. they'd rather run along walls and debris.
Build some mouse water bucket traps..inexpensive and cat-safe.
