Hey Guy's. Looking for a chassis to put my 66 body on for the front discs, and power steering. I know the 79 and 78 will work. Just curious if the earlier years are an option? 73-77. Oh ya 2wd half ton.
Thanks. 66f250
The frames are basically the same, but why change the chassis. I have a '65 F100 and also had a '75 that I bought for the cab and bed for my other project.
The front axles were a bolt in swap so I had disc brakes, the booster was a bolt on, as I recall (it's been a couple of years) I had to modify the brake pedal pushrod though, so now it has power disc brakes.
The power steering box and steering column were also bolt ins.
So now it has power steering and power disc brakes and the original '65 chassis.
P.S. The '65 three spoke steering wheel bolted to the '75 column. I just had to shorten the threads about 3/4" to clear the horn button.
The reason for the swap is my 66 is an F250. Wanted to go to a half ton. Do 73-77 2wd have power assist like the 4x4s or is it like the 78-79 power gear boxes.
I have a 460/c6 in my 66 now. I also have a 351w/aod sitting he garage. Will the 1/2 ton I beams bolt up to the 66 3/4 chassis? I have a 79 f250 front stub with I beams, discs, power steering, but it all just seams so much heavier than the 1/2. Wanting to build a cool cruiser, and think the 1/2 ton would a better way to go.

Dunno.. ya might oughtta head into the 61-66 forum to see what those guys say about later I-beams and discs.
F250 parts are lunkers... I'm slowly gathering parts to do disc swap into my '71 F250 and was surprised at the weight of the calipers and brackets. Definitely built and manufactured "Ford Tough".
More options to lower a half-ton. But I gotta ask, what's the overall plan for the cruiser? Eventual CV swap, Mustang II-style IFS, or drop beams? An axle flip (spring-under conversion) in back?
