I purchased a 97 f150 in pennsylvania and the cruis worked. about half way home to michigan it quit working and i dont know what to look for.i checked all fuse, relays and connections but it still dont work? Anyone with advice?
I also have a 97 F-150. I have had difficulty with my cruise control as well. Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. After much head scratching I've become convinced that the cut-out switch on the brake / clutch pedals is slightly mis-aligned.
If I'm forced to apply the brakes when cruise is on, it sometimes won't re-engage. When that happens, if I push the clutch all the way to the floor once and then try to re-engage the cruise, it usually works.
the abs light is on which is a whole nother issue but it was on since i purchased the truck and the cruis worked.it just quit. my truckis an auto so no cluch but the switch that is on the brake did break. the plub on the harness broke but i fixed it. i think the cruis quit before that though. I DONT KNOW WHAT THE PROB IS BUT IT SUCKS!!!!! Thanks for the advice and if anyone has any thoughts, please tell. Thanks
What is the flash code that the airbag is flashing? 32? If so you probably have a bad clock spring. This often accompanies no horn and no cruize operation.
A clock spring is the contact tape strip mounted in a cartridge that attaches under the steering wheel that allows electrical contact of the horn button, airbag, and cruise control switches, while allowing full rotation of the steering wheel. Also known as the airbag sliding contact.
Turn the key to ON, and after the 6 second proveout check, watch the Air Bag light. It will flash a two digit code. For example a code 32 would be Three flashes, a short pause, and then two flashes followed by a long pause and then it will repeat up to 5 times and then stay on solid.
I've had something similar happen to me twice so far. While using cruise on the highway, all of a sudden the cruise goes off and the truck begins to decelerate. I can simply re set the cruise right after and it works fine. Only has happened twice in a year but thought it was just weird.
