cruis controll dont work

Autozone battery ck cart showed: 12.47 volts, specific gravity ck of (full of water )invidual cells showed ok, charging/running approx. 14 volts and loaded with 55 amps-- ran 'til 56 amps. Test Cart said either alt. or battery---bad,--- unsure of/ reluctantly bought battery. Starts and runs fine. Also, was told to never remove red battery terminal on new vehicles to "quick-check" alternator ... Thanks anyway.
