Ok I am putting a 04 Crown Vic and a 66 F-100 together. I have put the Vic front end in the truck already. I will be using the 4.6 and it's trans in the truck. The truck was originally a 4-speed manual. My question is I am looking for a steering column with a A/T column shifter for it that is stock or looks stock. I want it to look as stock as possible until you open the hood or look through the wheels and see the front and rear disc brakes. Have been searching online and have found a bunch of ididit columns but they all say need to use a aftermarket steering wheel. I want to use the stock steering wheel as I am going for as stock as possible look outside and in the cab. Any help will be appreciated.
Id say you probably want to look for a column from a stock auto truck then. I would think anything well into the late 70's or early 80's will have the look and function you want. I doubt they changed the steering wheel splines, but I'd definitely check on that before grabbing any of those later columns.
Actually, I just got what I believe is a '73-'77 column to use on my '61. I've already got an aftermarket wheel, and I will be having to buy a different adaptor kit for it.
The old one, which fit in place of the stock '61 wheel will go on the splines, but it won't seat far enough down to get the nut on the shaft.
So, in short, yes, they changed the splines.
