Just got my chassis rollin!!! Heidts Superride II front and classic 4-bar rear. Anyway just wondering if anyone is using the stock steering column withe the heidts power rack&pinion?? hoping to use stocker instead of aftermarket (although a column from ididit/flaming river wouldnt be too bad ) thanx for any ideas!!!
I see no problem using the stock column and steering wheel except having to rewire the horn. The horn wire comes out thru the steering shaft on a stocker (I think). Others on here have done conversions (to Toyota steering box, etc.) and kept the stock column.
In addition to the horn relocation, you need to make/purchase a lower centering bushing, lower floor mount, and grind flats on the shaft to fit a DD u-joint, it's an easy job except for losing the horn button on the steering wheel, but there's a lot to be said for a tilt column and smaller wheel especially with PS. Try a search, there's been a lot of discussion on steering column choices.
