I have a 66 f100, brake light switch is on the pedal now, PO switched the column to what looks like a 70 column maybe newer. the plug is completely different and i dont feel like messing with turn signals yet. anyway, my question is how do i wire the brake light swith bypassing the turn signal switch? constant power to one side then the other side to the yellow going to the rear? PS- i have headlights and tailights.....
Don't understand the question, as the brake lite sw has nothing to do with the turn signals operation. The pedal switch should be using the same 2 wires that it was originally. I pulled mine back through the firewall and connected to the 76 switch now at the pedal.
The turn signal is controlled in the column and do share the same two wires going to the rear.
According to the wire diagram, the brake light switch wire goes to the turn signal switch...... will the brake lights still work without the turn signal switch being hooked up? i have pretty much the same setup as you do and it is using the factory 2 wires. i assumed since one of the switch wires went to the turn signal switch that the lights wouldnt work without it being hooked up
Thats whats on my column, not sure what the smaller plug is for, it goes to a "slide switch" at the base of the column. how would i bypass the TS switch so i can have brake lights for now?
The gray plug on the right is for a Dentside steering column ('73-'79).
The black, flat connector on the left is for the column-mounted NSS (Neutral Safety Switch)/backup lights. The NSS was mounted on the top, lower end of the column inside the cab on '77-earlier model trucks with an automatic transmission. In '78, the NSS was moved to the side of the automatic transmissions.
I installed a '78 tilt column in my '69 F100. I made a 'patch cable' to go in between the column connector and the main under dash harness connectors, so that I didn't have to butcher any of the original main harness wires.
so.....if i was to "butcher" this, can anyone tell me which wires from the column i need for the 66 harness to atleast get brake lights?
"10" is the slot on the Dentside column connector for the brake lights. On my '69, the brake light wire from the truck harness is dark green.
You may have to look up the electrical schematics for your model truck, and from the Dentsides, to figure out the integration from the original wiring to the later model column wiring. --this is how I figured out the wiring from my '78 column to the '69 main wiring harness.
