BD announced their 6.7 electric exhaust brake control

Looks to be similar to what the Banks Speed Brake did 5-6 years ago on the DMax platform

Well, who's going to be the first in line and then give us a report as to how it works and how the installation process goes?

I didn't notice a price,

Price is $595

BD Diesel Performance US BRAKE, Variable Vane Exhaust - Ford 2011-2014 6.7L

Installation instructions. The major work appears hooking up the wires under the hood.

I wonder if this would work on the castrated chassis cab 6.7's being that it has a different turbo.

Banks had it out for the 6.4 as well. It worked very good.

They don't have it for the 6.7 though.

I'm kind of surprised that no one was asked about implications to the Ford Warranty if installed, used and a problem later arises.

I am guessing that it would be much frowned upon as in a tuner since it stacks with the cpu jack. And it's function would or may get recorded in the computers memory as something abnormal from OEM protocol.

But, Hey I just guessing here. Could be a nice feature to have while towing the 5th wheel, even better when slowing the 5th wheel.

They do state it might throw some codes if used under certain conditions.

I'm betting that's why it's just coming out now. I'm sure they could have done it in 2011 but the market would have been small as most won't risk their warranty. The 6.7 is getting old enough now that there are enough out there out of warranty to create a decent market for a product that could void one...

Supposedly, one of the reasons we had to wait so long for an actual factory exhaust brake was due to limitations of the top end. Granted, several of the changes Ford did for the 2015 engines were to improve how well they "go", but some of them allowed them to improve how they "whoa". I wonder how well the 2011-14 will handle the exhaust brake, while mechanically stock up top.

The B&D Exhaust brake is only for the 2011-2014 it does not work with the 2015. This product looks like it's doing what the 2015 trucks are already doing.

I had the B&D Exhaust brake on my 2006 6.0L engine. Worked great for a few years. It was a butterfly valve in the exhaust and with time it began to stick a lot. Basically just got carbon build up on the valve. Also where the dealer pierced the wiring insulation for the Throttle Tip sensor, corroded after 3 years and caused a bunch of other problems That I couldn't find until the dealer traced everything thru and embarassed me by telling me it was my after market add on that was causing all the problems.

.
If that was for me, I was just questioning whether the top end can handle the exhaust brake without the mods that Ford put in on the '15+ to handle it. I would like to have one on my '14, but not sure about the valve springs, head gaskets, or manifold gaskets. I'm hoping that one of the techs can shed some light.

I had a Banks speedbrake on my 6.4. It controlled the vanes in the turbo and increased the down shifting of the trans.

Worked well.

I would assume the same principle here.

Scott, this was on your 6.4? No issues with valve float or gaskets of any sort? Sounds good.
