Hi all. I was having alternator trouble and pulled it off. Took the brush holder/regulator off and saw that the brushes had completely worn out to the point that one had dug into and pretty much cut in half the copper bushing on the shaft. So I see i can buy the brush holder for $10 but does anyone know if you can buy the copper bushings? I can't find them anywhere.
Assuming I can't (or that it's not worth the effort) does anyone have any suggestions on a good replacement alternator? local napa has AC delco's remans for $180. I'm nervous about getting the napa branded ones. Anyone have the actual motorcraft part number for the original alternator? I can't find it anywhere on the thing. (this is a 2000 V10 X)
If there is an O'Reilly auto parts near you, they carry Motorcraft. I looked it up here local to me and they have one in stock, you just need to check your area.
FYI, if you go to O'Reilly to buy a Motorcraft alternator, you will probably pay more than what Ford retail is. In the OP's case, Ford retail on the alternator he needs is $251 and in my area, O'Reilly wants $267.
I heard about QuickStart (seem to be highly recommended) and got a hold of the guy. Seems he has the 130A standard, 140A HD, and on up to 250A units. I only plan on adding some lighting and a CB in the future so I think I'll go with the 140A HD unit for $230. I'm hoping it'll be higher end than the stock motorcraft units (the one that just failed probably was the original and had almost 200K miles on it).
