Woo hoo, I get the pleasure of replacing an alternator 100 miles from home in a Napa parking lot. Unfortunately Napa is the parts store that I was able to limp to as I do not like Napa alternators but it looks like that is my only choice.
Nah, it was cold and icy. The new alternator was in and I was down the road by 9am. I will be taking the OEM in to the auto electric shop that is local here to be rebuilt/beefed up and that will go back in the truck. The Napa alternator will be sold or turned in for a core or something. I do not trust the remans.
I feel for ya! Just had to do the same thing with barely any tools. Thank god I had a spare OEM alt. laying around at home. Took my dad 2 hours to drive it out to me but in the end we got it on with no problems. Had to do it in a gas station parking lot at 9PM..
It is a piece of cake. Really all you need is a screwdriver, 10mm socket and a 1/2" breaker bar to remove the belt. I had mine out and in my hand in 5 minutes.
