Hi All,
Been a while since I've been here. Anyway,, gotta couple questions that I can't seem to get a straight answer on these days. I'm lookin for a roll bar, or a show bar, or whatever ya wanna call it. You know,, that thing that rides in the back of your truck to hold up the lights that ya use to melt riceburners when they come at ya with all them halogens........... one of them things. I see them at swap meets for $25-$50 but I have no idea what to look for in one. Are there one's for Ford, and others for others? would any year work for my 79 f-250? Does anyone know what specs I would look for if size does matter? Any help would be great on that. I had one more question, but I gotta tell ya, I can't remember what the heck it was, all I can remember is that I like naked women,,, imagine that. Thanx
its not nescessarily the diameter of the tubing, its the size, thickness and type of steel it was made of that matters more (and how it is mounted) I am not sure of the specifics of the thickness, but I have seen exaust tubing be used before, and I KNOW that will not hold
Pay attention to how it will mount in the bed of the truck, as to how far back the tubes run, and wether or not they bolt to the bed of the truck or the wheel well humps. Also check to see how wide it is. You don't want to end up with a toyota sized roll bar in your full size truck. I am having a similar problem finding a rollbar for my stepside, I can't find any listings in catalogs for my truck. I may find a cheap used one from a compact truck to fit.
well I bought a tranyy out of a dodge that was rolled the only thing saved the driver from being crushed was the roll bar after the wreck the roll bar and truck was junk but the driver did survive
Sycostang67 you would love to have the roll bar I have for my 79
it is for a swb step side but it doesn't look bad in my full size and no it's not for sale!
Just about any full sized truck light bar should fit but there is the difference between a bar for a step side and a bar for a fleet side.
Also Ford had a factory option 3 inch diameter bar that was available with some kind of a spot truck package. I have saw pictures of this in an old brochure.
I am sure Mil1ion has pictures of this.
Just about all the after market bars are 4 inch.
There seems to be a little confussion as to what I'm really lookin for here. The only purpose of this bar would be to hold lights, flags, racoon tails... whatever..... IT'S NOT A SAFETY DEVICE ...... I want the style that LOOKS like a roll bar that sits behind the cab in the bed of my full size, ya know? Not real sure if I wanna make it outta a wreck in this truck, as I put so much money into it so far restorring it from a pig sty that the little lady woud string me up if I came home alive with it all banged up. I only want to know if the width, hieght, and depths ( from front to wheel humps) are standard. And thanx for all the replies so far,, y'all rock!!!!!!!!
As stated before, the size and thickness could be an issue. Had a in-law build a roll bar for his dodge out of heavy 6" pipe. He doubled the pipe across the top and the 2 going back he mounted to the fender wells. Didn't take a year for the thing to tear-up his bed from just driving on rough dirt roads. Fender wells pulled away at the seams, and it ripped right through the bed some where it was mounted. It's now a anchor behind his garage. I tried to tell him it would take a mans truck to carry that, and his dodge proved it!!!!! ha ha
He's young and still learning.
