New toy

Picked up a '51 Ferguson TO-30 tractor. 5000lbs on a 3000lb capacity trailer, 60 miles home. Was a bit terrifying. Also I really like how the 6.0 feels over the v10 as far as towing. Something just feels different as far as stability goes, more so than the way over-loaded trailer.

Machine starts and runs like a champ. Needs minor electrical fixings, and a weight box on the rear, but that's about it.

Rears are flipped on purpose. It was a bear to do. I had to flip them in to fit on the trailer, then out again once I was off. They're filled and weigh about 300lb each. I flipped them out for stability, and they rub the loader arms when they're in.

FYI - Just keep an eye on your rear axle housing and wheel studs - when a heavy load is placed on the rear axle it can have some negative results.

Don't ask me how I know...

Seems you tend to run mostly Overloaded. Did you ever get the large piece of equipment moved

Yup, my Oliver industrial 77. Already broke it, fixed it, and broke it again. First tie rod, fixed, now the rear spool valves are in parts in the garage. It's a beast for sure, with a super 88 motor rated at 55hp.

I'm told that the rear axles can easily take an 800lb block on the back, the 3pt will not lift before the axles will break.

A few weeks ago was on the interstate following a pickup towing a way overloaded utility trailer full of stuff. Hit a big dip in the road and snapped the trailer axle. Both wheels wedged into the wheel wells essentially locking up the trailer's tires, luckily I saw it happening and changed lanes and avoided the chaos.

I bet towing that on a trailer without brakes was terrifying. I took a bobcat with a big trailer (belonged to the rental place) with no brakes across town when I had my 01. That little package rated out at 7000 lbs. I might as well have not had brakes. I'd push down on the pedal and we just kept going.

Actually braking was fine, the trailer didn't push me around at all. It just didn't want to accelerate very well.

From what I've seen people tend to overload those little single axle trailers. Get phone calls from the dealers more often then I'd rather telling me customers broke an axle or a spring due to overloading it. The ones that get on my nerves are the ones who want to by an 7K axle to put under their 3 K trailer. They get special pricing. I guess if it fits, it ships, eh?

That is a nice lookin' piece of equipment. Do you restore them, or do you get them to move dirt with? Dad did a restore on an International Dozer that has been pretty handy. Be safe out there trailering that bad boy

The trailer is heavier duty than it's titled for, I just have it registered for 3000lbs because it avoids the need for brakes on the trailer and inspection.

I use them around the house. I suppose once I'm done renovating the yard I'll have no use for them anymore, but I hope that never happens.
