Transfer case options

So in my quest for stuff, i.e. gathering parts from the junkyards for my 4x4 swap on my dually, I came across a rather odd problem. I found a good ZF-5 4x4 diesel transmission but the transfer case and 4wd shifter were already gone. Now I know that the E4OD transfer case will work, but the shifter is too long on it for a ZF-5 truck. So my question is... And here's where it gets fun...
Can I use an Nv-273 out of an excursion with my "new" 4x4 ZF-5? From what I've been able to find online I just need to change out input shafts. But how would I go about wiring in the electronic selector switch?

And not to be an ***, but if your contribution to this thread only consists of "don't do it, a manual shift is better" then by all means feel free not to post. I only want to know if it will work and how to wire in the 4x4 selector. I'd like to avoid cutting holes in my floor board if I can help it.

I can probably get a wiring diagram for you. PM me the make and model and year of the vehicle you want to use the transfer case out of. I stayed with the manual selector myself. less electrical parts = less chance of failure.

No. Different 6 bolt pattern and different shafts sizes(the NV t-cases have 2 different input shafts as well. one from a 4r100 and one from a ZF6)

Also, no need to cut any hole. there is just a block off plate that comes off with 4 screws

Huh... Well, crap. I was kind of looking forward to doing something a little different. So what should I do about the transfer case shifter rod then? Can an E4OD one be shortened for the ZF-5?

Yes, you can just shorten the e4od rod.

You can either use a 1356BW from a 87-95 or a 4407 from a 96/97
The thing is you want one from a F350 and the companion shafts.

the F350 front shaft has a Cardian joint(double joint) at the t-case side for the steeper angle(5 speed shafts are shorter than the e4od but can be cut an shortened)

The 4407 has a flange rear shaft while the 1356 has slip yoke design

Thanks. Now to find a measurement for how long to make that shifter rod then...

I pulled a transfer case out of my 1980 F250, and married it up to my ZF 5 speed. I dont remember what transfer case it was anymore though. The transfer case yoke did not match my original drive shaft yoke so I had a driveline shop cut, balance, and install a matching yoke. That run me about $170.

I did however fabricate a new cross member as I could not find an OEM cross member that allowed the drop for clearance of the transmission, and transfer case. The Ford sales associate claimed it was not a removable part from the frame. I tried junk yards, and specialty ford shops, but couldn't find anything.
