I have the feeling that my tranny is finally dying.
It has olways slipped a little when cold since I bought it, never worried me though.
Now it can't decide when to go into 3rd or stay in 2nd.
When taking off, it hits first then hits 2nd real hard, then sorta pulsates between 2nd and 3rd. It finally decides to stay in 3rd at about 45-50mph.
I really hope it's not goin out. I can get it rebuilt for 800 bucks, but I don't have 200 to my name right now.
Well, I would try to drain a couple of quarts of fluid and then replace it with Lucas Transmission Fix. Won't hurt and only costs about $8. per 32oz at most decent auto parts stores. Mine slipped pretty bad between 3rd and OD and I drained and replaced 2 quarts with the Lucas stuff and have not had any problems since. That was probably about 15 to 20K miles ago. It also shifts much smoother.
You will get a bunch of differing opinions on transmission work but this is just from my personal experience.
I would definitley try the Lucas idea it worked for me and got my tranny another 1000 miles. Also while you have the pan off do a visual check see if theres any metal in the pan. If you have a C6 you can buy a rebuild off ebay and rebuild it within a few days if it is dying.
Been offline for a while and let the post slide.
I'll have to try that lucas stuff. Just wondering, where can I get one of those drain plugs that you drill and install on your tranny pan? Olways wanted to put one of those in.
If my tranny does die, I could just yank the one out of my 83 bronco, it worked real good, just a little slippage, could hardly notice. Thanks for the input guys.
I have wanted one also but never got around to doing it. Yet. I've seen them on Jegs and Summit but you may get lucky on MotorHaven. Usually less than $20.
