So I recently purchased a 52 Ford F1 and found this engine ID on the valve cover. D2AE-9C485-CA. So, I have a 1972 351W but what do the rest of numbers/letters mean?
"CA" is the level of revision from the first motor of that displacement, it does not an indication of what the revisions were comprised of. The whole set of characters is the engineering number for that engine. In 72, there were maybe a half dozen 351W's built for use production.

Thank you baddad. I searched for a long time and could not find a definitive explanation. To think I worked on these engines for Ford in 69 and 70. How easily I forget. lol
