I'm thinking about going to the junkyard this week and pulling a set of windstorm fans. What is a good fan controller I should look for while I'm out there? I see most guys either make one up themselves or just fork over the $200 for a really nice one but I figure I can get one while I'm getting the fans.

All I can say is if you buy one make sure its A QUALITY controller, I had a junk one fail me one day waiting for food at a drive threw and reached about 220 before I realized the controller stopped working. Managed to get it on the road and moving fast enough after that that the engine was happy but still not something you ever want to have happen.
A standalone controller for an electric fan can be a difficult find in the junkyard. Typically, this function is built into your engine management system.
The old school way was to use a thermal switch of the type used in appliances. They were mechanical in nature and had a capillary tube that you would insert into your radiator fins. Certainly not a $200 solution, much cheaper when you use something like this.
I'm working on installing a controller from DC Controls. Go to their website and read about it. This guy is sharp and knows what he is talking about.

Yes they are expensive, but there is nothing else like them in the world. I just finished my install today and I am pleased beyond words. Here's a couple of quick pics.
Here is a diagram I found on another forum. What do you guys think?

That is a fantastic setup. What fans are you using?
