6.7 performance mods in AZ

Hey Guys,

I am new to diesels and Arizona. Back in IL i know we could basically do anything to these trucks but i know nothing about the rules here in AZ. I have a specific list of things i want to do in terms of minor things such as a programmer exhaust and intake but i dont want to get stuck with some AZ BS laws. Can anyone point me in a direction for info? Thanks!!

well as far as I know you do a yearly or Bi yearly inspection ( emissions ) . which means they check a few things on the outside and run computer for emissions codes.
they should also look at exhaust but from what I understand as long as you have no codes on computer you will be good.
I live outside of emission areas which most do not now days and they make it a real pain when I get my exemption form to prove I live outside the area. now on newer cars / trucks ( under 5 years old ???) you can just pay a smaller fee online and bypass it all together

I don't think it matters if you have a tune, they are looking for error codes on computer.. I.E. emissions codes. you should be fine with any tune as I don't think they have a way to check that, they just run a code reader type deal

You didn't say where you lived? Arizona only has emission checks in the Phoenix valley and in Tucson. the rest of the state is wide open.

the metro phoenix area are bigger than you think. I live 55 west of phoenix city limits and I am only 2 streets west of the cut off line. So being my zip code is in both I have to prove it each time. I am in Tonopah ,AZ so there are 4 city's between me and phx. also most of the states population are with in this boundary. Meaning yes the state is big and lots of land out side of emission area, but by pollution most live in these areas . lots of land is in no livable areas and also lots of Indian land , BLM , etc. you can goto to AZ DOT website and follow the links to emission section and there is a map of the covered area

well i actually live in Scottsdale so i knew i was in the emissions zone but i guess i should have made that clear originally. All i am wanting to do at this point is a dpf back exhaust, intake and bullyday..when i decide to actually get serious then the truck will be shipped to chicago to be worked on by a friend of mine. Unfortunatly with living in a condo these days im not privy to work space. Any of you know a shop close that will install those three items for me and not kill me on the labor?

funny, I live there but I am in Chicago area off and on all the time including now. I had a guy a few years a go, he was a ford dealer diesel guy that did my stuff on the side, but I have not talked to him in a few years
let me know if you find a good shop. I know there are a number of diesel shops ( hot rod shops ) around the area

trust me when I say this... its still warming up. the part I don't like is its bad enough when its 115 to 120... but when its 102 to 105 at 2 am ... you cant get away from it... anyway july, aug , sept ( mainly aug) are the worst.. so its june which means it has not topped out yet..
