1991 f-250. The key cylinder seems to be starting the truck at the same location it should just powering up the dash, fuel pump. So when I turn it to the power point it starts up and the starter stays engaged.
I've replaced the ignition switch and the key cylinder. Still the same problem. I've ran wires to the solenoid to hot wire it and it cracks up and the starter does not stay engaged.
On top of the column were the ignition switch is, they are adjustable 2 11/32 nuts, just loosen and it slides up or down, your case I would move it down, if that doesn't help something in there is broken or out of whack. In that case take the switch out, use a small screwdriver and run the switch through the paces, if it works normal you know there is a problem in the column. Take the bolts out of the bracket that holds the column up, it will almost drop to the seat, then you have room to work on it. If it's an automatic careful of the PRINDLE. It should unlatch or unscrew from the cluster, this is the time to go slow and steady, dont want to break anything else. Good Luck
I did relocate it and I replaced that part. Same problem.
The problem started when a made a new key. So i switched back to the old key. Didn't fix it. So I replaced the key cylinder. Could it be the rod in the column?
