It is getting toasty in the great state of North Carolina and the last thing I need is fussy AC. Does anyone know the most common cause for the AC not blowing cold at idle? Blows cold under a load.
Also, you can put a shutoff valve on your heatercore hose. That will stop any heat from entering your heatercore, which will give you a slightly cooler HVAC system. Once outside temperatures gets cool nearer winter, pop your hood and open the shutoff valve to let the heat back in.
make sure the A/C system is charged properly.. could be low on refrigerant...may also be the condenser like others have mentioned..is your compressor the original? might be time for a new compressor, condenser, lines, etc.. pretty much an A/C rebuild..compressor is probably worn out.

If it was a low charge, then he'd be having very short clutch intervals, as in every few seconds. If he is getting cold air at higher speeds, that tells me that his condenser is working only when it gets decent airflow.
One way to check is, turn the AC on while idling. wait for the air to blow warm, then use a garden hose to spray cold water liberally on the condenser. If the air blows colder, then your condenser is poorly functioning.
It's not necessarily a bad thing, you just need to realize that you won't get the kind of output at idling or slow speeds. Maybe charging it up a little might help.
