AC issues

ive got a 2000 F350 and since it finally got warm enough for me to run my AC for passengers I’ve noticed its not cold. At idle it blows warm if not hot air at times, sitting still and running the engine up to around 2000 i get nice cold air. I checked my pressures and got 42 low side and around 200 high side at idle. I don’t have hardly any air flow across the condenser( front of truck), it barely sucks a light rag into the grill and definitely wont even try to hold it. I had the same issue last year around this time and changed the fan clutch, it kinda worked but not well. Any ideas were to go to now, mount an electric fan in front of the condenser, ...?

You could try this, it might help and it is free.

I will try the 2 fixes tomorrow and see if it works any better. Pirschwagon i hosed out all of the coolers recently but will check between the radiator and the other coolers, i seem to have a bad habit of thinking i did something recently but didn’t. Hoping to find a simple, and cheap fix before it gets to hot out.

I tried to fix the compressor gap but have a single spacer shim. With it there is approximately a .060 gap. When I turned the AC **** on, I could turn the compressor clutch for a bit before it locked. Should the mating faces be flat or stepped? Mine are stepped. I have to fix the garden hose before I can try rinsing out the evaporator or even the radiator, innercooler and everything else up front so hopefully that will be soon. Any other places to look fellas? It’s getting hot and in a week i wont be able to work on it for a bit.

You can purchase a new clutch kit for the compressor instead of replacing the entire thing saving you money in the refrigerant and parts.

I don't remember the specifics about the clutch being flat or stepped, so I will refrain from answering that part.

I looked up a new clutch assembly and it was flat. A lot of them wear a groove on the face of the clutches, but still work
most of the time. I had a lot of customers who's clutch would not kick in unless i tap the out side of the clutch and it
would engage. Most of them i removed the spacers washer and it would work for the season and sometimes longer.
If you remove the spacer shim and put the clutch back on,turn the out side clutch (With engine off) to see if it
scrapes the inside clutch face. If it doesn't scrape,i would run it to see if the AC works better.

I pulled the face off again tonight intending on removing the spacer but I noticed the rivets that hold it together have been worn into. While reading on other forums and my personal opinion this sounds bad and i probably should replace it. Ill pull it apart again tomorrow just to see if there’s clearance still but hoping someone speaks up before 5 tomorrow my time agreeing I should replace my clutch.

If I were in your position I would replace the clutch.

The way i suggested is only temporary. Some of my customers didn't have a lot of money and it got them by
for the summer. I would definitely replace the clutch set up if your going on long trips and don't want it to shut
off in the middle of a trip. If you get an after market clutch set up,make sure it has a good warranty. If you
plan on keeping truck for a while,i would get the clutch set up from ford.

Ok, now after looking into the warranty, it kinda sucks. For 55 plus tax I can get the clutch, what it bolts to and the coil(i think). That unit comes with a 3 month warranty. For 35 and tax I can get just the clutch from ford that holds a 12 month warranty. As best as i can figure looking online, if i wanted the same parts i can get for 55 but from ford it’s gonna run me over 200. I only run the ac when Ive got passengers on the truck, mainly mom and the girlfriend so it doesn’t get ran that often, and cash is kinda tight since i spent most of my truck money on new rear springs and some tires.
