This (rear vented window) is very important while transporting three dogs...sometimes they like to expel happy smells.

The pop out windows were an option on all the trim levels. Like Mark and I said, a must have for transporting stinky kids/dogs/hippy hitchikers...

Jim TN, the controls are on the center ceiling panel just in front of the outside temp/ fuel computer controls. Looks like 2 window switches (cause they are!) I'll see if I can find a picture...

I practically spit out my coffee when I read this! Lol! One of the best things about our Ex is the dogs have their very own section in the back. My kids hated being stuck in the 3rd row with dogs in the old car when they passed gas on trips.

The XLT did not come with opening rear windows. You can no longer find the glass for the opening windows. If you read this post from the begining you will notice that I had to use the non venting window glass when mine broke last summer because you cannot get the venting window glass any more. There are no US glass manufactures (for auto windows/windshields). When you order glass for a vehicle it comes from Asia with the koren glass being the best avaliable at this time. Even i you could get it they are over $800 each and they are a poor design that fail. Consider the fact that your xlt does't have it a great thing. I had to replace 2 of these windows.

X rear windows

If My X does not have opening rear windows, sure would like to know what the gismos are that are attached to them at the back. They look like some sort of latch that would rotate but have no handle and might go to a motor in the rear column. Guess the leaking could be stopped by getting some of that glass stuff installers use to put windshields in and filling the gap around them.

Jim, do you have the rear vent window switches mounted in the overhead console? Im pretty sure that the rear vent windows were an option on XLT rigs.

I looked at an XLT with cloth seats and pop out windows. It even had power adjust pedals. Just a few rarely checked boxes on the order form I guess.

I have found that I do have the pop out windows. Never knew what those switches were. Will use them only for cleaning the window gaskets so they seal from the rain. Thanks to all that helped here.

That's what mine is and has.

FYI, there are a bunch of folks parting out Xs out in this part of the world- 2 right now have pop out windows w/motors complete for less than $200 ea. So they're not impossible to find. Drive it, enjoy those awesome windows that open, and if something fails, deal with it then!

So I closed my driver door today and I heard something rattle loudly and it was the driver rear window. I was stuck holding it there in place and luckily my wife came out and brought me some duck tape.

Its worth noting that the truck has been sitting in the driveway all weekend, the sun hits it for most of the day and its been very hot here lately. Looks like the adhesive finally failed.

2002 Limited with 258k, and I use these vent windows all the time, almost every time I drive the vehicle.

I think Im going to take it to Ford dealer and hope they have a good way to fix it. If it lasts another 250k, Ill be happy. Maybe insurance claim?
