Once again I am calling on the Aerostar Brain Trust...
Replaced the heater core January 2006. Solved the leak problem but the heat output never got back up to the level I had prior to the repair. Last spring we repalced the water pump. Now there is not even a hint of heat coming out. Neither heater hose gets warm. Thermostat opens OK, based on the heat coming from the top radiator hose. I pulled the heater hose at the thermostat housing and seem to be getting flow out of the housing. Is it possible the heater hoses/core have become airlocked and no coolant is getting the core?
Both hoses will be hot if the t-stat is opening.
With your engine cold, take off your rad cap. The coolant will be relatively still until the t-stat opens. You'll know when/if it does open. You'll see some flow thru the rad.
1 plugged or collapsed heater hose, they break down from the inside and look perfect on the outside
2. 96 and later have vacuum controlled heater line valve that stops coolant flow when heater is turned off or AC is on, yours failed closed?
some shops install these or electrical ones in hot climates S. USA
3. heater damper door not opening, damaged vacuum line
4. mice have been known to get into heater box and plug it up with their nest building, usually stinks which is the tip off.
5. heater lines were installed in reverse onto the core. affects air purging and air blockage
