I have a 1979 f100 I6 that has a problem .you know when you start a vehicle
And you try to start it too fast befor the starter has time to stop and it makes a grind nois. Well my truck some times does this right from the fist time cranking it over.is ther somthing wrong with my starter? Or is this somthing thes older trucks do?or is my starter going? Or is ther a deeper problem learking?
Once you get the starter checked out, yes, old vehicles very often have worn-out teeth on the flywheel or flexplate. But you don't have to buy those parts, because the teeth are part of a "ring gear" that is welded to the flywheel/flexplate and is separately replaceable at low cost for the ring gear, plus a small charge to have the old one removed and a new one installed, usually by a welder.
