It will work as a Generic Code Reader without bi-directional communications.
If you're needing a code cleared for emissions purposes, keep in mind that many vehicles have to go through certain conditions and/or cycles without an error code pending or stored before it will pass.
...at least it is that way here in PA where the legislators conspired with (okay, "owned interest in the primary contracting company") emissions providers
AE can usually check for OBDII readiness in OBDII compliant vehicles. I don't know if that requires an "enhanced" license for the manufacturer or not...
Since I live in the wild west (no emissions enforcement), I don't usually look at the emission stuff. I can tell you AE can do some emission testing on my Prius without the Toyota bundle.
I thought initially that this was a new issue since she had not driven her rig for some time but she said the CEL was in the last time it was driven. So --- it could be anything from a bad gas cap to O2 sensor or who knows. I fixed an O2 sensor code on my Ranger by just cleaning some corroded terminals on the battery.
