M-100 Hood

Good day

Just bought myself a 1953 Mercury M-100 and quickly noticed that the hood only opens about two feet (not all the way up). Not sure if this is normal or if there is an issue with the latch/springs.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

They don't open much more than that I'm afraid and if you try and force anymore than that you risk buckling them or forcing them through the windshield.

That is why we usually remove them, when working in the engine area.

If you are not planning on keeping it original you could always opt for the forward tilt hood like many of us do.
