weird 6.0 problem(s)
I'm an active duty Marine stationed aboard Camp Pendleton, I bought my 2005 F350 used with 54k on it about 3 years ago and use it as a daily drive with the occasional tow or long road trip. Prior to enlisting I went to Ohio auto diesel technical institute for their master tech course and I've been an Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAV) mechanic for the last 17 years so I understand most of how it all works however, most of my experience is centered around pre emissions control technology since electronics were new when I was in school and the AAV is a 40+ year old vehicle.
Roughly 6 weeks ago I went to start my truck and had a no start situation that sounded (to me) like a lack of fuel, I changed the filters and it fired right up so I thought I was good. in the last few weeks I've had some some odd things happen, my RPMs will drop Appx 150 from idle then raise the same above and for the next few drives I'll have squishy throttle, if it doesn't clear up I run into the no start situation again and will have to cycle the key multiple times to get it to start and when it does it slowly builds to idle. occasionally I'll be able to tell if "m going to have the problem when I start it because the sound is softer than it should be, if that makes sense, and if I have the problem(s) it will have the same sound after for a trip or 2. During all this it has never thrown out a code. I've changed the regulator spring and have the EGR valve on my bench now (it wasn't too bad) waiting for those lovely folks at Amazon to drop off the O-rings.
Thanks for the help.
This way you can watch Injection Control Pressure (ICP) & Injection Pressure Regulator (IPR) numbers. Both of these are a good starting point to troubleshoot the 6.0 no start condition.
Check out the 6.0 forums. I've received plenty of useful information from the people there.
