6.0 starting problems

I have a 2005 6.0 the other day it would start and run for about 2 seconds and die. pulled fuel filters and they were twisted. put new in added additive and ran good for a week. yesterday it would not start batteries went down from me messing with it and it ran for a couple seconds and dies. put scanner on it fmic power is 48 and some change no codes. has new batteries, alternator, fuel filters. had it in heated garage and still would not start any ideas thank you

What are the ICPV's at KOEO? Have you tried unplugging the ICP sensor and attempt to start it? What is the ICP reading while its running? And is this during cold starts or after it has warmed up? Also monitor the FICM main voltage as you are cranking, it needs to remain above 45. Have you removed and cleaned the EGR valve? And have you scanned the truck for DTC's? You can have pending DTC's even without a check engine light.

It's like someone tried to ring them out like a wash rag. Instead of the pleats being straight they're twisted like a screw.

yes oem filters. I will check all the other stuff tomorrow. it has only done this twice. but it was running fine in-between all of this. I filled the secondary filter with anti-gel the first time it quit and it started like crap and cleared up and was running fine until Sunday

Welcome to FTE geneva1 If you can give us a run down of mileage, previous work, past history, and any other info that may help. What do you use to read codes, are you getting fuel at the upper filter?

We like to ask questions....

Have you checked to see how fast your upper fuel filter fills? You'll need some help with that. Pull the lid and have someone turn the key on. It should fill very fast.

we here we go codes are po231, po611, po676 p2614 p2617. icp koeo is 1221 psi, icpv is 0.37, un pluged icp did not change anything. cranking engine over ficm is around 36v once you stop crankin it drops more. but before cranking is is at 48v. does that help any?

The P0611 means the FICM needs to be repaired that coupled with the FICM main voltage being below 45 indicates the same, so it's time to send that FICM off for some lovin with Ed @ FICM Repair.com - Your Source for FICM Repair . The ICPV's ay KOEO ( key on engine off should be around .20 - .24 volts. Did you notice any oil in the ICP connector when you disconnected it? It looks like you will need to replace the ICP sensor and if there is oil in the connector you should replace the pigtail as well. The P2614 and P2617 are likely from extended cranking and the P0231 could be the inertia switch being tripped or and bad relay or bad fuel pump or a wiring short. Can you hear the fuel pump running when you turn the key on? it should run for about 20 seconds after the key is switched to the run position.

thank you mustang 309. I will send the ficm out tomorrow. I did not see any oil on the icp plug I will throw a sensor in it and be done with it.

Anytime bud, this will be a good time for you to fully charge the batteries and to take them down and have them load tested separately ( completely disconnected from one another ), low system voltage is a FICM killer. It would also be a good idea to get yourself some gauges that read live data so you can keep an eye on things, scan gauge II or one of the smartphone apps like dashboss for IOS devices or torque pro for android or the Edge insight CTS is a nice unit.
