Need advise, truck is in the shop they tell me i need new master cylender and front breaks, they did not even break into the back end.
My question is should i replace the entire axels and upgrade the breaking system as well. may be cheeper and better to get axels from salvage yard for f250.
Are you more interested in originality or driveability? A newer rear end would lower your engine rpms and the newer brakes are of course safer than the original. Try some searches here for info about swapping rear axles. I'm not sure if the popular front axle swaps would be wise with your larger truck, but I'm no expert.
For the record, I chose to replace the cylinders with new old stock. I'm thinking seriously about going with a dual master cylinder, though.
Will you use the original wheels? If you are just grab an axle out of a 67-72 F-250 it should bolt right in like the 9" for the F-100. It has a 4.10 ratio I believe. For front brake I don't know if this would work but ECI makes a kit for the F-1 that uses 73-95 F-100 front discs. If Ford didn't make the F-250 brakes any bigger or change the spindle you could theoretically use the F-250 brakes to keep your stock 8x6.5 bolt pattern. I put an F-1 rearend in my '51 M-3.
Thats the thing, before I get the wheels I want to make the decision as to what I want to do. I have 8 lugs on the axle and I have had a hard time finding the correct wheels. I would like to upgrade to disk braces and some kind of power.
The other thing is getting the gear ratio so I can take it on the highway without having to run the RPM so high. with the weight of the truck and it being a 3/4 ton I think I should stick with 3/4 ton upgrade if that is what I do. I think I am talking myself into the upgrade with your help, I wanted to keep it as stock as possible but the previous owner installed a c***y 350 motor and transmission.
