2008+ Tailgate differences

Can a tailgate cap and liner from a non-step bumper be put on a step bumper (with step removed) to make it appear as a non-step type?

I would imagine that they would not make 2 entirely different tailgates for step and non-step. The tailgate caps also look very similar so I think it would work fine.

Yeh I wonder if everyone has a step capable tailgate then.....

Take the cover off and the top rail cap and replace them with the step pieces and your good to go

The step tailgates have provisions for the step and handle. I don't think it is as easy as swapping parts around. I would be more inclined to compare part numbers of the tailgate skins first.

The skins aren't drastically different. The cap will work, and the liner should work though.

The cap won't have support in the center though, so be aware.
