I have a '10 6.4L w/ 85,000 miles and recently blew the engine. Coolant levels were fine, and it gave me no indication that anything was going on. I was in stop in go traffic pulling my 5th wheel when the temp spiked and immediately returned to normal. When I went to move off the road, the engine blew. The tech is saying that my EGR blew apart. Can someone explain to me how this could have happened and how/why didn't I get any type of warning that there was an issue
I am assuming you mean EGR cooler? The coolers can blow like that without any real warning. Usually you have signs of impending failure like losing coolant, maybe some white smoke from the exhaust, sometimes puking from the coolant degas bottle. But sometimes they just fail.

I'm glad the truck is in good hands at your dealership, gjamerson. I'd like to see what I can do to help as well. Since you're a new member and don't have access to PMs yet, send an email to custserv@ford.com with your details. I'll need your full name, best daytime phone number, VIN, current mileage, and servicing dealership. Be sure to put my name (Crystal) in the subject line; post here once you've sent it. I'll find your message and get to work on some options.

Thank you Crystal. Please do not take this the wrong way, but I'm not looking for options, I'm looking for answers as to what caused this catastrophic event so that I can hopefully prevent it from occuring again, as I don't plan to get rid of my Ford.

No offense taken, gjamerson. I'm not at technician, so I'm not the best resource for mechanical information; I'd recommend reaching out the service manager at your dealership directly to discuss this further. If you'd be interested in speaking with the customer service manager (CSM) for your region, just send the details I requested in my prior post and I'll make it happen.
