My friend has an '04 F350 6.0 and is having some issues I'd like to ask about. He was towing his 5ver and busted his radiator, replaced. Ok, he says his coolant has an exhaust smell but the oil is still good, not chocolaty. I told him since no coolant was in the oil it was more than likely a bad EGR cooler. Thoughts??? He also said he was having a low power with low boost issue only making 8ish lbs of boost towing heavy. I told him the low boost was probably the turbo vanes were sticking and needed cleaning. He asked me to help him diagnose/do some repair work on it with him( I have AE ). If we have to go in and do an EGR R&R, I'd like to hear some thoughts on additional upgrades to do while there. I told him OEM oil cooler, maybe Bulletproof EGR cooler or delete, what I'm not sure about is the hidden stuffi.e. stand pipes yata yata. It's an '04 late/early I don't know. I also told him to do a flush with about 30 gallons of distilled water, he's had a coolant filter in place for some time now..... Thoughts?? Thanks..Phil

one way to find out is to park nose down hill and pull the EGR Valve look for coolant down in the port, if so then cooler has blown , any smoke if so then what color ? anything floating in the degus? to tell if early or late ICP sensor is on the Valve cover would be late built. good Idea on the hidden stuff if ya'll can swing it financially.
the clutch fan? need to load up the fan speed ( FSS) on the Gauge to find out , I think it come on at 210/215 on the boost Issue look at CAC boots there are 1 under each Battery 1 connected to turbo hot side and 1 turbo cold side also the Plastic on the CAC Inter cooler where the pipe connects has been known to crack , also double check the MAP hose and EBP and tube, Monitor FSS , MAP, EBP, BARO attest at KOEO ( key on engine off make note Low Idle make note High ( 2500 rpm ) make note.
Thanks, I've been on the road and haven't had much time to search, that's why I was asking about 04 year specific upgrades and dos and don'ts if we end up tearing it down for an EGR R&R. Does the 04s need the blue spring, stand pipes,STC fitting? I had heard the early 6.0s had a better EGR cooler, true/false?
Mid year '04 changes were significant. The pic below is looking at the passenger side valve cover, peeking under the CAC tube coming off the turbo. If the ICP is here (circled in the pic) it's a late '04, if it's not there it's behind the turbo with the IPR and is a early '04.
We just got back from a test run with AE. the delta between oil temp and coolant temp was 37* running at 70 on the interstate. Oil cooler for sure. He was towing his 5er last weekend and we were behind him towing our TT, we had to slow for traffic going up black mtn and he barely made it up, it would not build speed back up at all. Like 15 mph the rest of the way up. He said it would only build 8psi of boost. Could the oil temp being too high put the truck in limp mode and have no power. Same weekend he blew a radiator and said he replaced all the coolant, we checked it today and it was black. As he's not sure about losing coolant before since we now know his radiator was bad. He's talking to a guy he knows about head studs yata yata, and I told him I would get him a list together as far as the correct parts and upgrades.
EDIT: AE showed the barometric pressure to be 14. something, but didn't climb as we accelarated. But his boost guage was showing boost and you could tell it was building boost. Would that be a map sensor issue?
Baro changes with altitude and weather. Acceleration doesn't affect it. Limp mode is very likely the power issue. Sounds like it has some significant issues. 15mph with the hammer down for a few miles can make for some expensive repairs.

The early 03/04s had the better EGR Cooler round style , yes on the Blue spring for good measure all years would need this, STC fitting I believe started in 05 model and up , I asked if you pulled the EGR Valve and looked in the port for wet , what was the out come? how did the EGR Valve look coked up or a little soot? Have we Inspected the CAC Intercooler and CAC Boot's for splits? I know Ya'll been on the road but it only takes a minute to scope it out or pull a few things to get cha back up and running ( crap) I said Cha ( you).
When I said I've been on the road I meant that I drive a truck. He was going to pull the egr valve and let me know what he saw. We checked and all the boots were good. There was a 37* difference between the coolant temp and oil temp. Just running empty on a flat interstate yesterday his oil temp got up to 224 while the coolant temp was 187. Then I read that 253 was the defueling point so I'm thinking that was his "boost"/no power issue. It's all stock without any gauges, and I don't think he watches for dash lights. Thanks..
EDIT he said it has the square egr cooler, his engine was very dirty so I didn't dig too much. I told we need to decrease it before we do anything else.. Lol

Thank you for getting Americas product from place to place , 37 deg most definitely Oil cooler is plugged . when you degrease try not to get the ficm, Alt, and be careful around the PCM area
