trailer computer in productivity screen not working
Hi guys,
Got a 2015 f350 lariat, and have noticed that the productivity screen's trailer computer doesn't count milage when I tell it the trailer is connected. When I tell it the trailer is connected, the trailer name in the list turns orange.
I've taken it to the dealer for this and something else, was there for 5 days and they never even looked at the trailer issue. I've also called the Ford number and they won't troubleshoot over the phone.
The only trailer that I have right now is a utility trailer with a 4 pin connector. I have plugged it straight into the Ford block and have also used 7 pin adapters in between. no change though, still doesn't count miles.
The animations show the 4 pin connectors, and I'm sure it's a similar program running in the F150's if not the same. Not everyone uses trailers with 7 pin plugs... just doesn't make sense why they would restrict this to the bigger trailers...
Do you know how it gets triggered, if it takes a brake control loop? I wouldn't mind hacking into one of my 7-4 pin adapters, adding a resistor, to make this work.
It is indeed triggered by the brakes being hooked up so the 4 pin won't do it. It's not about the size of the trailer, it only matters if it has electric brakes.
This sparked my curiosity again, so I went looking for a trailer brake emulator and found a Tekonsha 6562 on amazon. I guess I'll order one and see what happens. Will be interesting to see if I can leave it plugged into the 7 pin and also have the 4 pin plugged in next to it.

Cool find! Since the 4 and 7 ways are wired in parallel it should do the trick. I may buy one myself for testing. I have a more basic one somewhere but this one does a lot more.
